Historical Significance
La Garenne is the former home of Cistercian Monks, many well known Bishops have lived here, all Grand Masters of Templars, Bishop Rance was head of the Priory of St Anne.
The estate has a river, a lake, a tree lined drive and views for miles, of surrounding villages.
The Abbey, privately owned next door, is steeped in Templar history and is where the monks trained in many professions eventually taking them to England to work in many skills, the area most famed for Abbeys, etc, Croxton Abbey is one we can look up. The Abbeys income and wealth built La Garenne to a high standard although very plain.

La Garenne was also part of WWII, the Panzer division were situated here, the troops reported this back to HQ and the lancasters were sent over to stop them, sadly by the time they mustered, the Panzers had moved on to Caen. Aunay Sur Odon is rarely mentioned in any WWII documentories, yet it was wiped out during the invasion the lancasters dropped 20,000 tons of bombs on the village, only one person survived. Photo's of the devastation can be seen in foyer Hotel De la Place in the village, only 5 photos exist of the bombing by us.
